Senior R&D Engineer

We are looking for a hands-on Mechanical Design & R&D Engineering Manager to lead the development of precision mechanical products from concept through mass production. The ideal candidate has strong experience in consumer electronics, precision mechanisms, UAVs/drones, miniature robotics or precision instruments, with proven expertise in mechanical design, manufacturing and supplier management.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Engineering

• Lead end-to-end product development from concept, 3D/2D design, DFM/DFA, prototyping, validation, NPI to mass production.
• Design miniature and precision mechanical components, including joysticks, mechanisms, UAV structures, powertrain components and precision assemblies.
• Apply GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis to achieve dimensional accuracy, fit, clearance, gap & flush and product feel.
• Support production and resolve technical issues during prototype, NPI and mass production.
• Manage engineering projects, timelines, resources and technical deliverables.

Manufacturing & Materials

• Evaluate and optimize precision injection molding, stamping, die casting, 5-axis CNC, MIM and surface treatment processes.
• Work with engineering plastics, carbon fiber composites and lightweight metals such as aluminium, titanium and magnesium.
• Ensure designs meet requirements for strength, weight, thermal performance, IP protection, durability and manufacturability.

Supplier & NPI Management

• Develop and manage precision mold and machining suppliers, particularly in Mainland China, Southeast Asia and Malaysia.
• Lead DFM, Moldflow, T0–Tn mold trials and supplier technical audits.
• Develop validation plans covering drop, vibration, temperature, life-cycle and reliability testing.
• Support NPI with SOPs, fixtures, inspection jigs and production-line troubleshooting.

Team Leadership

• Act as the technical bridge between the Founder, Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing, Sourcing and Supply Chain teams.
• Translate product concepts into practical engineering specifications, designs and manufacturing solutions.
• Build and lead an engineering team as the company grows.
• Establish R&D standards covering PLM, drawing control, design reviews and ECO processes.
• Provide technical training and drive continuous engineering improvement.

Requirements

• 5+ years of mechanical design/product development experience.
• 2+ years of team leadership or project management experience preferred.
• Experience in consumer electronics, precision assemblies, joysticks/controllers, UAVs/drones, miniature robotics or precision instruments.
• Experience in large home appliances or large vehicle body structures will not be considered.
• Proficient in SolidWorks, PTC Creo/ProE or equivalent 3D/2D CAD.
• Strong practical knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, DFM/DFA and precision mechanical design.
• Good understanding of precision molds, machining and manufacturing processes.
• Strong experience working with Chinese suppliers and manufacturers; existing supplier network is an advantage.
• Business-level Mandarin Chinese and English are mandatory.
• Strong hands-on problem-solving, ownership and attention to detail.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with multiple responsibilities.
• High standards for product quality, precision and engineering excellence.
• Willing to travel regionally, primarily to Mainland China and Southeast Asia.
